here's the one thing that I don't want to have happen because of this election- people just become like little eeyores, grumbling, "my vote never really mattered anyway." i mean, dang people, this was a really close election! and people actually cared; they voted. we began to see that voting is a privilege and each voice needs to be heard. my dad was #192 out on the mainline at 7:30am. and i was #197 at 8:30am in washington square. and steven was #203 at 9:30am in chinatown. and there were volunteers streaming out of kerry headquarters and "Honk for Kerry" signs up and down South Broad Street. There were even dancers and musicians in Rittenhouse Square whose performances centered around getting people out to the polls. Honestly, I think that the tight presidential race helped senatorial and congressional races, too. people were already out voting so they let their voice be heard for all candidates running. i suspect this helped out mary's fave candidate, and clinched her victory. Congrats, Mary! Now, you can sleep (finally!).
